In times throughout history, simple cultures have been invaded by more "advanced" cultures. These "advanced" cultures were often able to dupe and seduce the simpler cultures with shiny miracle objects. In early times, such objects may have included items such as mirrors and guns, while in more recent history such objects may have included such items as televisions, radios, flash lights, cameras, etc.
The typical end result of introducing these shiny new objects is that the simple culture is duped into exchanging valuable resources in order to acquire these miracle objects. Many simple cultures throughout history were suckered into trading things of which the true value may not have been fully understood - such as land or mineral rights.
The truth is that this type of practice is still going on today, but not in the way you might expect. People are still trading resources of which the true value is not understood in order to acquire shiny objects. But, the cultures involved in this exchange are no longer divided along geographical lines. Instead, these cultures are divided along class lines. It is, in fact, the "rank and file" of the human population that are selling the most precious resource of all - their lives - in exchange for bright shiny objects. In exchange for technological gadgets and items promising comfort and luxury, individuals are selling away their time, becoming indentured slaves to the economic growth machine.
In order to break free from the tyranny of this unrecognized - yet nonetheless insidious - form of slavery, one has to be able to clearly recognize the pitfalls. I won't attempt to argue that technology is inherently bad, but given that its advancement is at the hands of unscrupulous money harvesters, one has to recognize the potential trap that it represents.
Throughout history, reproduction has been encouraged for various reasons. On some occasions, fertility has been required in order to maintain populations in the face of threats from disease or environmental calamity. At other times, procreation has been encouraged in order to produce cannon fodder to support wars that were almost always instigated by greedy leaders seeking to expand their territories and increase their material wealth. Proliferation of humans also serves the greedy desires of the elite by creating a larger taxable population as well as creating a larger "army" of consumers.
By not having children, you not only help to protect the planet against further human exploitation and the ensuing environmental destruction, but you also work against the selfish and greedy desires of the ultra wealthy who have only one agenda: growing their wealth.
