Humans do not just undertake the "conveyer-belt killing" of other animals, such as cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys, etc., but we have already permanently destroyed entire species of animals. We cannot wash our hands clean of this guilt.
Now, some would say that it is natural for species to become extinct, and that species extinction has occured throughout the history of the Earth. While this statement is technically correct, the implication of human beings in the mass extinction of animal and plant species in Earth's recent history cannot simply be brushed aside.
What we are looking at is a kind of genocide on a horrific scale, many orders of magnitude greater than the Jewish Holocaust of the Second World War. Yet, where the human psyche is deeply wounded by tragedies like the genocide perpetrated by Nazi Germany, we turn a blind eye to the devastation and dessimation of other life forms on this planet, for which we are almost exclusively responsible.
The belief is firmly ingrained in our religions that we have the unquestionable right to utilize - as we please - all forms of life that reside with us upon the Earth, as well as any land that we see fit to declare ownership of. We make the choice to violate creatures that are defenseless against us. We dismiss them because they cannot argue with us or oppose our will. We make the choice to evict animals from their natural habitats in order to grow coffee, raise cattle, create logging industries, mine for minerals, etc.
Occupying, by force, the natural habitats of animal species effectively becomes a death sentence for these species. Trying to argue otherwise would be like moving into an occupied house, forcing the family that is living in the house out into the cold night, and then trying to deny any guilt the next morning when the entire family is found lying lifeless in the street, dead from hypothermia. Anyone who thinks that the human race is not guilty of this genocide simply doesn't have their eyes opened to the overwhelming evidence. We cannot pretend that we are not aware.
