Those, in our leadership, who profess to be enacting policies aimed at protecting the American people by providing national security, I would suggest do really not care one iota about the people at all. I would suggest that, in actual fact, the interests they truly represent are the interests of the holders of America's wealth. An unstable US economy would wreak havoc on these stores of wealth. Instability in the US could cause a devastating flight of capital to more stable regions.
Whatever happens, making sure that the money invested in America is safe is the number one priority. Even if this means oppressing the American people, this will be done if it becomes necessary in order to protect the wealth. As wealth becomes ever more concentrated in the hands of the few, those few will find themselves increasingly at odds with the interests of the larger American population. It's a classic story that repeats itself throughout history. The same plutocratic beast reinvents itself, taking on new forms - as necessary - in order to thrive in a changing environment.
