Boondoggle Party

--- 2008-09-11 ---

After the major cock-up that is "Operation Iraqi Freedom" (gimme a fuckin' break!), Republicans want to now saddle American taxpayers with another massive, trillion dollar boondoggle.

As if our economy isn't sufficiently fucked as it is, Republican presidential nominee, John McCain wants to sink us in scores of nuclear energy projects - projects that are estimated to run a tab of $315 billion (so they'll obviously cost at least three times that much, once they're done... late and hopelessly over budget).

Let's face it, McCain is just another industry shill-for-sale. He has a pretty face for a VP candidate, but that doesn't make him a good choice for America (although I'm sure there are plenty of dumbass fellow citizens who are fooled by a face).

By the time any of these nuclear projects come online they will already be obsoleted by developments in solar technology (sorry, Mr. Pickens, but I just don't see wind having the same revolutionary disruptive effect). The game is changing, but we can expect Republicans to try to carve out as much money to send as a consolation prize to connections in the dead-in-the-water nuclear industry.
